A new collaborative study from the GlyphoMix research project, published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, investigates the molecular effects of perinatal exposure to glyphosate, alone and in combination with 2,4-D and dicamba.
Using small RNA sequencing and functional enrichment analysis, the study identified distinct sex-specific alterations in hepatic miRNA expression, with herbicide mixtures producing the most pronounced molecular responses. The findings highlight the importance of considering mixture effects, developmental exposure windows and sex-specific responses in toxicological risk assessment.
The study was conducted through a multidisciplinary collaboration between our research group, the Laboratory of Animal Physiology at the University of Thessaly, the Gene Expression and Therapy Group at King’s College London, and the Department of Toxicology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova.
Our team contributed to the small RNA sequencing analysis, bioinformatics processing and interpretation of sequencing data, highlighting the value of cross-disciplinary collaboration in addressing complex questions in molecular toxicology.
