Costas Stamatis is a Special Teaching Staff member at the Laboratory of Genetics, Comparative and Evolutionary Biology, Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Thessaly. He holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Thessaly, with an early research focus on the genetic analysis of fish populations, and has been involved in research activities within the laboratory since 2006.

His research experience spans molecular genetics, population genetics, genomics and evolutionary biology, with particular emphasis on the study of genetic diversity, population structure and phylogenetic relationships. His work has included molecular studies of a wide range of organisms, including livestock, wildlife, fish and other animal species, contributing to research in biodiversity conservation, animal genetics and evolutionary biology.

Costas has extensive technical expertise in genomic and mitochondrial DNA extraction, PCR, RFLP analysis, electrophoresis, genotyping and population genetic analysis, as well as in silico DNA analysis, data mining and the evaluation of genomic databases. His research has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications addressing topics including animal genetic diversity, phylogeography, conservation genetics, molecular markers, food authentication and genomic variation.

Alongside his research activities, he has a strong role in teaching and scientific training, participating in the organization and delivery of practical exercises in Biology, Cell Biology and Genetics. Through his research and teaching activities, he contributes to the laboratory's multidisciplinary work at the intersection of molecular genetics, genomics, biodiversity and evolutionary biology.
